Arts Center - Creating Fascinating Characters in Fiction - Zoom

ZOOM CLASS

CREATING FASCINATING CHARACTERS IN FICTION

For all levels 16+. Do you have a story you want to tell, but don’t know how to get started? All good stories begin with a compelling central character. But how does a writer create a realistic character who’s interesting enough to draw the reader into their world? Join Deanna Larsen-Quinn and find out! In this creative writing course, participants will learn the difference between flat and round characters, static and dynamic characters, and practice various methods of direct and indirect characterization. And an engaging character needs to be doing something, so we’ll put your character in action by having them confront internal and external conflicts. Let’s brainstorm and build the story you want to write! Class periods will feature writing instruction, discussion, and guided writing exercises. All participants will receive feedback on their writing and a Character Starter Kit for putting their story together with additional writing prompts and revision activities. Min. 5, max. 15.

Deanna Larsen-Quinn

Via Zoom, Sun., Nov. 8, 15, 22, 29, Dec. 6, 13, 20, 2-4:30 p.m., Register by Nov. 2. $70 ART-F11

What do equipment do I need? You must have a computer with a camera and a microphone. Your computer must be connected to the internet. You can also use a smart phone or a tablet.

Can I have both of my kids in the class? If everyone watching on your computer is registered, they can attend the course. Registration for a class is for one person unless specified otherwise.

Does my camera need to be on me? Your camera should remain on you for the entire class.

Can I register on the day of the class? Please register early so that we can make sure to have supplies available for you. Classes that don’t meet the minimum registrations will be canceled.

How do I get my supplies? The day before the class, you can pick up the supplies at the Early Childhood Center entrance (Door V) of the Middle School. This is a no-contact pick-up. Enter the Early Childhood Center doors and locate the supply packets stored in a tub right inside the doors. Your packet will be labeled with your name.

How do I join the class? The day before, we will email you a link to the class. Plan to join the class a few minutes early to make sure your connections work.
